Care Compliance Dashboard
Importing and Validating Clinical Notes in an EHR Workflow
Objective:
This lab is designed to provide students with hands-on experience in understanding and navigating the electronic health record (EHR) workflow for patient management using the Care Compliance Dashboard(CCD) sandbox. Students will learn how to import clinical notes into the EHR, validate the information against the patient’s facesheet, and manage patient data such as problem lists, medications, and other clinical attributes. The lab aims to enhance understanding of EHR functionality and its role in improving healthcare delivery and compliance tracking
Lab Overview
Introduction to the Care Compliance Dashboard:
Familiarize yourself with the CCD EHR sandbox interface, including modules like Problem List, Medications, Diagnosis, and HPI (History of Present Illness).
Understand the purpose of the Care Compliance Dashboard in managing clinical workflows and tracking patient compliance.
Patient Management Workflow:
Create or retrieve a patient profile within the EHR sandbox.
Explore and interact with key features, such as updating the Problem List, managing medications, and navigating compliance data.
Importing Clinical Notes:
Import clinical notes provided as external data into the Care Compliance Dashboard.
Use FHIR-compliant tools or manual entry methods to upload structured clinical data.
Facesheet Validation:
Cross-check the imported clinical notes against the facesheet in the EHR.
Validate critical information such as diagnoses, medication details, and problem statuses for accuracy and completeness.
Error Resolution:
Identify and resolve discrepancies between imported clinical notes and existing patient data in the EHR.
Lab Workflow
Setup:
Launching Care Compliance Dashboard - TBD
Log in to the Care Compliance Dashboard sandbox with provided credentials.
Review the provided patient dataset and clinical notes.
Patient Creation/Selection:
If needed, create a new patient profile in the sandbox.
Alternatively, select an existing patient from the database.
Data Import:
Import clinical notes provided in PDF format.
Ensure the notes are correctly parsed and mapped to relevant EHR fields (e.g., Problem List, Medications).
Validation:
Compare the imported data with the facesheet information.
Validate data accuracy for key fields such as:
Diagnoses and Problem List.
Medication start dates and statuses.
Compliance and follow-up details.
Report:
Document any discrepancies and the steps taken to resolve them.
Summarize your findings and present recommendations for improving EHR data workflows.
Learning Objectives
By the end of this lab, students will be able to:
Understand the EHR Workflow:
Navigate and use the CCD to manage patient data.
Describe the key modules of an EHR and their roles in clinical workflows.
Import and Validate Clinical Data:
Import external clinical notes into the CCD.
Validate the accuracy and completeness of data by cross-referencing with the facesheet.
Identify and Resolve Data Discrepancies:
Recognize common errors in clinical data integration.
Develop strategies to resolve discrepancies and ensure data integrity.
Gain Hands-On Experience with EHR Systems:
Simulate real-world tasks in healthcare informatics, such as data entry, compliance tracking, and problem list management.
Enhance Data Interoperability Skills:
Learn how structured clinical data, such as FHIR-compliant formats, facilitates seamless integration into EHR systems.
Outcome
Students will gain practical experience in working with an EHR system, emphasizing data integration and validation. This lab will prepare them for real-world scenarios where accurate patient data management is critical for healthcare outcomes.
